Coating method to form a film containing ultraviolet ray shielding agent and infrared ray shielding agent.
The FUMIN coating is a patented technology that forms an even clear film of conductive metal oxide on a glass surface by a spray gun. This film absorbs and shuts off infrared ray and ultraviolet ray.
In hot summer, it prevents the room temperature from rising because it absorbs and shuts off infrared ray (solar heat) from outside.
Another excellent characteristic is that it keeps the room warm and prevents dew condensation because the heat inside the room is not released to outside easily.
It is an environmentally friendly product that contributes to global warming prevention and cost reduction.
Shut off about 90% of ultraviolet ray
The coating shuts off 90% of ultraviolet ray, protecting your skin. In addition, it prevents the interior from discoloring and deterioration due to sunlight.
Achieve a visible light transmission of about 80%
Because it is superior in visible light transmission, the exterior appearance and interior brightness are not affected almost at all.
Shut off infrared ray by about 70%
The coating shuts off heat radiating infrared ray by about 70% and thus contributes to energy saving and CO2 emission reduction in offices and houses.
Save heating cost
In cold winter, the area near a window is felt cool due to cool radiation even when the room is heated. A glass coated with FUMIN absorbs the heat (far infrared ray) inside the room and thus solves the cool radiation problem.
Prevent incoming insects
Insects with compounded eyes such as moths, horseflies, bees, and stink bugs have a habit of flying toward ultraviolet ray radiated from a fluorescent lamp. By shutting off the ultraviolet ray, the coating can prevent those insects from approaching near the glass.
Remain effective for about 10 years
The FUMIN coating is resistant to heat crack because of the same expansion ratio as glasses. It is also resistant to scratches because of the superior hardness. Consequently, it remains effective for about 10 years.
It is not necessary to rework the coating frequently as with a film type product.
Do not worry about dew condensation
The test photos below indicate two adjacent windows facing to the north, and the right window is coated with FUMIN. When the room temperature is 15C and the outside temperature is 0C, the coated glass is fogged, but no dew drop drips. Dew condensation water may cause bacteria to propagate. By restricting the dew condensation, the coating also provides antimicrobial performance.

Application scene
The FUMIN coating can be applied to any types of glasses that cannot be coated with a film, such as wire glass, curved glass, large glass, and frosted glass, whether it is outdoor or indoor.
An impossible idea is finally achieved as a global patent.
One winter when the agriculture is in off-season, we noticed dew condensation on a glass. Dew condensation occurs when the difference between outside temperature and room temperature increases to 15C or more. Then, dew condensation might be prevented if the glass was kept warm. Another hit came from a mobile telephone. The touch panel of a mobile telephone becomes active by absorbing infrared ray. What if this material could be applied to a glass? This is the first step to the development of FUMIN coating.
There is already a similar method in which a commercially available solvent is applied with a sponge pad to the window glasses of a telephone booth to control the temperature inside. However, this method has not spread because of the uneven finish and poor workability. Well then, can we do it more effectively if we use a spray gun?
Although we generally use a mist spray in order to improve the quality of a coating film, this method required multiple oversprays and therefore even an experienced technician may make the glass clouded. To the contrary, the use of a larger diameter nozzle may cause dripping. Then, we came up with an idea to create a perfect film - dry the sprayed solvent by a hot air blower before the solvent drips. The keys for achieving it are the hot air temperature and airflow velocity. Initially, we failed many times. After modifying the solvent mix and conducting tests repeatedly, we finally found the optimum parameter values.
One time, an interested party in Fukushima was surprised at the coating quality without no iris phenomena and unevenness on the coated surface. He gave us the following comment, "How on earth did you make it? Brilliant!" We were then aware of the importance of our invention and applied for patent. However, it was rejected. When we almost gave up, the patent office manager at that time of the Tohoku Economy, Trade, and Industry Bureau advised us to consult the examiner of the patent office and modify the application contents. We consulted the examiner following his advice and finally acquired the patent approval in January 2007.
Low cost coating that dramatically changes sensible temperature
After acquiring a patent for the spray hole diameter, injection pressure, etc., we started participating an exhibition in various regions. The customers gave us a totally different response that we had not received before. Because simply applying this coating changes the sensible temperature dramatically at low cost and contributes to effective utilization of resources. Our proprietary coating technology "FUMIN coating" received trade offers from major glass manufacturers, paint manufactures and trading companies. We also had business negotiations in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The FUMIN coating was selected as one of the heat island prevention technology fields in the "2007 Environment Technology Demonstration Model Project" by the Ministry of the Environment and the demonstration data were created in March 2008.
Since then, our technology have been introduced in a wide variety of media such as the web magazine "Highlighting Japan" issued to foreign countries by the Cabinet Office, gJapan SPOTLIGHTh by the METI, Nikkei Business, Nikkei Architecture, Agriculture Newspaper, and some TV programs including "Good Morning Japan," "Close-Up Tohoku," and "World Now - JETRO's Global Eye" from NHK. We have had an increasing number of company visits and inquiries for agency agreement from overseas.
Foothold in Asia where construction needs are increasing
In July 2007, we set up a local company named FUMINN PTE. Ltd. in Singapore as the foothold in the Asian market. Now we receive inquiries for license and agency agreement from multiple companies in China, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Countries with no earthquake have more high-rise buildings than Japan and the heat island phenomena there are much more serious. In South East Asia and Middle East that maintain high construction demands due to strong economic growth, the future increase in environment business demands is more promising than in Japan.
Creation of new businesses, prospective employment increase
We mainly give technical guidance. We purchase the FUMIN coating products from our subcontracted major paint manufacturer and sell them to our agencies at a price including the patent fee.A significant advantage of the FUMIN coating is that anyone can apply it easily because a modified general spray gun is used. At present, we have agent agreements with more than 110 companies in Japan, some of which employ handicapped people as coating operators. Thus, the business is expected to contribute to the independence support for handicapped people and the employment increase.
Further possibilities of FUMIN coating
The applications of FUMIN coating are not limited to glasses only. It can be applied also to polycarbonate, greenhouses, and window glasses of electric vehicle. In future, coated ultra-lightweight polycarbonate windows may become predominant in the window market. A drastic change toward next generation energies from coating technologies has already started.
